NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Disaster Recovery Center in Slidell, St. Tammany Parish, North Shore Harbor Center at 100 Harbor Center will be closed Saturday, May 6,and will reopen Monday, May 22. All Individual Assistance operations will be unavailable however; the Small Business Administration (SBA) office will remain open at a temporary location onsite. Please look for the signs.

Applicants may visit other DRCs, or access information anytime by calling the Helpline at 1-800-621-3362. Hearing-or speech- impaired individuals may call 1-800-462-7585. Both numbers are available from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. All DRCs operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and are closed on Sundays.

When the Slidell DRC opens on May 22, representatives of state and federal government will rejoin the customer service representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration to answer questions and provide recovery information. No cash, checks, debit cards or vouchers are ever distributed at Disaster Recovery Centers. These centers are for the dissemination of information to assist in victim recovery. Written materials about various state and federal programs are also available to individuals and business owners.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
