BATON ROUGE, La. - Finding a safe place to live is one of first steps on the road to recovery and providing temporary housing is a top priority for t he U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency ( FEMA) and the State of Louisiana .
This week in Louisiana: At the close of business on April 1 there were 59,389 occupied travel trailers and mobile homes on private, industrial, group and commercial sites; 29 occupied apartment units; and 3,010 occupied federal housing resources provided by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program.
