The CCR Animal Resource Program is managed through the Office of the Director (OD), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH). We provide animal resources, training and education, imaging, and technology development in support of moving basic science discoveries to the clinical setting.
- Planning, development, and coordination of laboratory animal resources for the CCR’s research programs.
- The ARP Manager is the point-of-contact for animal-related issues such as:
- Coordinating the use of animal holding space within the NCI animal facilities, NIH central animal facilities, and shared animal facilities.
- Overseeing the use of all centrally funded animal resources.
- Assisting with cost-effective options for animal technical support, off-site animal contracts.
- Coordinating/negotiating animal-related interagency agreements and memoranda of understanding (MOU’s).
- Liaison to the NCI project officer for the LASP/SAIC contract, the NIH Division of Veterinary Resources (DVR), and the animal program support staff for animal-related issues.
- Advice on basics related to working with animals, help with animal study protocol development.
- Site visit animal resource documents.
Requirements for conducting an animal study at the NCI-CCR include:
- Completion of approved training courses
- Registration with the Animal Exposure Surveillance Program
- Approval from the NCI-CCR Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) for proposed studies
- Approval to use animal holding space from the CCR Animal Resource Program Manager
- Instruction in animal facility operating procedures
