Vascular Biology Working Group
Mission Statement
The Vascular Biology Working Group seeks to create a research community committed to the advancement and application of knowledge in the fields of vasculogenesis and angiogenesis as applied to cancer treatment. The Group promotes research excellence in the field of vascular biology in both the NCI intramural and extramural communities. We plan to establish a research environment that pursues the most creative, cutting-edge basic and clinical research in vascular biology, both through individual principal investigator-based initiatives as well as through collaborative interactions.

The Vascular Biology Working Group brings together NCI intramural investigators who have an interest in topics related to vascular biology. To create a national program of research excellence and translate new research discoveries into novel cancer therapies, the Group's areas of interest focus on the following:

-Developmental vasculogenesis
-Angiogenic growth factors and cytokines
-Angiogenesis
-Lymphangiogenesis
-Vascular pathology
-Endothelial cells
-Smooth muscle cell and stem cell biology
-Animal models
-Pre-clinical developmental therapeutics
-Vascular gene profiling
-Biomarkers
-Vascular imaging
-Drug design and development
-Tumor perfusion and blood flow

How To Join
NCI intramural principal investigators may join any of the Faculties/Working Groups in which they wish to participate. Although membership is intended primarily for NCI intramural principal investigators, some groups also permit other staff members to participate. Membership is also open to local NCI extramural science administrators.

Please check with the Faculty Chairperson, David Roberts, Ph.D., if you have any questions.

To request membership in this or any NCI Intramural Program, please visit and fill out the Request for Membership Form.
