The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) urges renters, homeowners, and business owners to complete and return their SBA loan applications. Although a completed SBA loan application is not required to receive FEMA housing assistance, it is a key step in the recovery process, as it may determine eligibility for other types of disaster assistance, including FEMA grants.

The SBA helps homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations pay for repairs or rebuilding efforts and cover the costs of replacing lost or storm-damaged personal property. These disaster loans cover uninsured and uncompensated losses and do not duplicate the benefits of other agencies or organizations. For more information about SBA programs, call 1-800-659-2955, or TTY 1-800-877-8339.

Texas disaster victims may file an SBA disaster loan assistance application online. The Electronic Loan Application is accessible via SBA's secure Web site at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.

The filing deadline to return applications for property damage is Dec. 12, 2008. The deadline for Economic Injury Disaster Loans is June 15, 2009.

More disaster information is available online at www.fema.gov, www.sba.gov, or www.txdps.state.tx.us/dem.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
