High Island Disaster Recovery Center to Move to High School Gym

AUSTIN, Texas -- The FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Center on Bolivar Peninsula, Highway 124 at Second St. on High Island is moving into the High Island High School gymnasium on Wednesday, Oct. 29. 

The school's address is 2113 Sixth St., High Island, TX 77623. Hours of operation for the new location will be 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and closed Sunday.

Since opening in early October the center has assisted more than 900 applicants.

Residents can apply or follow up on their applications by going online to www.fema.gov, or by calling 1-800-621-3362 or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- or hearing-impaired. Residents should register only once; duplicate registrations may cause delays in the delivery of assistance.

Disaster assistance may include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repair and other serious disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance or other sources. Low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration also are available for homeowners, renters and business owners for losses not covered by insurance or other sources.
