H.R. 4812—The Stem Cell Discovery Through Diversity Act

On July 12, 2004, Representative Peter Deutsch (D-FL) introduced H.R. 4812, the Stem Cell Discovery Through Diversity Act. The bill would require the Director of NIH to conduct and support human embryonic stem cell research in accordance with Guidelines issued by NIH during the prior Administration. The bill would also require the Director of NIH to ensure the donation of cells from a “significant number of individuals who are members of racial or ethnic minority groups...” The bill has no cosponsors and was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
