AUSTIN, Texas -- Checking the status of your application for disaster assistance is an important step in the recovery process, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). A new "Automated Status Update" function for those who registered for assistance at 1-800-621-3362 has been implemented.
With the help of the Automated Status Update, applicants are able to check the status of their case and obtain basic information regarding their account, without having to speak with a FEMA operator. By following a series of voice-activated prompts, the applicant can access information about personal registration, eligibility status, financial compensation, the appeal process and other information.
Option number one is for registration; option number two is for automated status update; and option number three is for the Helpline, including talking to a FEMA agent.
To access the Automated Status Update, the applicant must provide their FEMA registration ID number, date of birth and the last four digits of their social security number. If the applicant provides inaccurate information or makes an error, they will be forwarded to FEMA Help Line staff.
The Automated Status Update will allow applicants to access up-to-date information on their status of their disaster assistance application with FEMA.
