FEMA Provides Continued Assistance In The Aftermath Of Hurricane Rita

WASHINGTON , DC -- The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency continues to provide assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Rita. Federal resources and commodities continue to flow into Louisiana and Texas .

"FEMA is continuing to respond to meet the needs of those victims of Hurricane Rita in Texas and Louisiana ," said Acting FEMA Director R. David Paulison.  "FEMA will be on the ground in Louisiana and Texas to assist in this recovery effort for as long as it takes."

Update on FEMA response activities for Hurricane Rita:

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
