Louisiana Nuclear Exercise

DENTON, Texas -- FEMA will participate in an exercise to evaluate and grade the River Bend Station (RBS) power plant, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 6-7. RBS regularly tests response procedures and practices in conjunction with local, state, and federal agencies. The one-day exercise will help the facility define and improve practices that keep the community safe from natural and man-made disasters.

Event: River Bend Station (RBS) Exercise

Purpose: Graded, Biennial Exercise

Participants: Louisiana State Office of Emergency Preparedness, River Bend Station power plant, the City of Baton Rouge, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, the Parishes of West Feliciana, East Feliciana, *Point Coupee, *West Baton Rouge, and East Baton Rouge, and Louisiana State University.

*Includes a traffic/access control point drill. St. Francisville High School will also participate in the exercise in West Feliciana Parish.

Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 44, Part 350, established the policies and procedures for FEMA's initial and continued approval of State and local government radiological emergency planning and preparedness around commercial nuclear power plants. This approval is contingent, in part, on State and local governments' participation in joint exercises with licensees.
