Language Interpreters Program

Participation in clinical research often involves complex, technical discussions about illness, medications, treatments, tests, procedures, services, and many other topics relevant to one’s medical care. Being able to communicate in one’s preferred language is essential to ensuring safe care and accuracy in conveying medical information. The Language Interpreters Program provides comprehensive language support to Clinical Center patients and families who have limited English proficiency, thereby facilitating participation in biomedical research. In-person interpretation services are provided by a cadre of volunteer and staff interpreters trained in medical terminology and medical interpretation. Remote, phone-based, interpretation services are also available through reputable contracted services in patient care areas throughout the Clinical Center. The Language Interpreters Program also facilitates provision of sign-language interpretation services for those with a hearing impairment.

For more information:
7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday: call the Language Interpreters Program at (301) 496-2792.
