Oklahoma City, OK -- Federal and state officials encourage those who
need disaster assistance information to visit any one of the five Disaster
Recovery Centers (DRC) that are open throughout the disaster-affected
areas.
Visitors can get one-stop disaster information on:
- The status of their application
- FEMA/state assistance programs - temporary disaster housing and housing
repair. Other needs assistance can include the replacement of personal
property, disaster-related medical expenses, transportation expenses,
and other serious expenses.
- Legal assistance - disaster-related legal issues such as lease or
insurance problems. The Oklahoma Bar Association provides the free service,
and those who need legal advice can call: 405-416-7000 or 1-800-522-8065,
Mon. - Fri. from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. or talk with a representative at
the DRC from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
- Disaster Unemployment Assistance - available through the Oklahoma
Employment Security Commission. Applications may be filed by calling
toll-free: 1-888-840-9675. The deadline for filing an application is
June 14, 2003.
- Crisis counseling - assistance available for both adults and children
affected by the recent disaster. Those who need assistance can call:
1-800-522-9054.
- U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) - information on low-interest
loans to individuals and businesses. Loan officers will also assist
anyone who needs help in filling out the SBA application.
- Internal Revenue Assistance - tax relief information for individuals
and businesses located in the nine counties included in the disaster
declaration of May 10.
- Mitigation - information on cost-effective measures to reduce or eliminate
risk to human life and property from natural disasters.
The five centers below are designed to provide detailed program information
to those who have already applied for, or need, assistance under President
Bush's May 10 disaster declaration for the Oklahoma counties of Canadian,
Cleveland, Grady, Kingfisher, Lincoln, Logan, McClain, Oklahoma and Pottawatomie.

Center hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mon. - Sat. and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on
Sundays.
Those who were affected by the severe storms and tornadoes that began
on May 8 may still register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621 FEMA (3362)
or 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- or hearing- impaired.
