Houston, TX -- Based upon a request from the State of Texas, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will provide financial support to eligible local jurisdictions in the 30 disaster-declared counties to address the mosquito infestation, FEMA and state officials announced today.

Federal Coordinating Officer Scott Wells and Tom Millwee, State Coordinator (DEM), said FEMA granted a special policy exemption to expedite the process because of the increase in the number of mosquitoes caused by Tropical Storm Allison. Wells said funding will be provided through FEMA's Public Assistance program.
