SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Individuals who have called the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) teleregistration line to report property damage from the recent storms are being reminded to ask anyone claiming to be an inspector to produce legitimate identification.
"With more than 100 federal inspectors at work throughout the 25 declared counties, it is important that people not be taken in by imposters," said Federal Coordinating Officer Robert E. Hendrix. "All of our inspectors are ready and willing to produce their official photo identification."
Inspectors from other agencies also may visit damaged property during the recovery process. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) sends loss verifiers to inspect damaged property of those who have submitted loan applications. Local building and safety inspectors check damaged structures to assess their safety and to monitor and review rebuilding efforts.
