SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- As of Nov. 24, state and federal officials have approved more than $1.5 million in disaster assistance funds to help residents of Seguin who have applied for help following the Oct. 17-31 floods in south and central Texas.
Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Texas Division of Emergency Management (DEM) released the following figures on the status of disaster recovery assistance in Guadalupe County and Seguin.
- Disaster Housing including rental assistance (not including mobile homes or travel trailers):
Seguin Eligible: 650 Total Approved: $1,545,965
- Small Business Administration (SBA) loans - approved for homeowners, renters and businesses in Guadalupe County:
Eligible Applicants:16 Total Approved: $ 673,900
- Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) - Individuals may visit the DRC in Seguin, located at 202 N. Camp St. (Old Post Office Building), after they have registered for assistance. This center and six others that are currently open give flood victims the opportunity to speak face-to-face with recovery specialists about disaster assistance and ask questions about their application.

- County Registrations - Individuals who have called FEMA's toll-free number at 1-800-462-9029 (TTY: 1-800-462-7585) to register for federal and state aid, including housing assistance, disaster unemployment assistance, low-interest loans, income tax and social security assistance, veterans' assistance, serious needs and necessary expenses, and flood insurance information.

Individuals who suffered losses during the flood are urged to call FEMA's teleregistration at 1-800-462-9029 (TTY 1-800-462-7585) to apply for disaster assistance. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The deadline for applying is Dec. 21, 1998.
