Baton Rouge, LA -- State and federal officials announced the opening of Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) today, October 9, in New Iberia and tomorrow, October 10, in Jennings to assist those affected by the damage and losses caused by tropical storm Isidore and Hurricane Lili. DRCs also are open in Slidell, Houma, St. Bernard and New Orleans. A mobile DRC will be in Assumption Parish Monday through Wednesday, October 14-16 and in St. James Parish Thursday through Saturday, October 17-19.

New Iberia's DRC is located at the City Park Community Center, 300 Park View Drive. The Jennings DRC is in the Lendernan Building at 1024 North Lake Arthur Avenue.

The mobile DRC in Plattenville will be located at the Lucky Hit Shopping Center, Highway 70. St. James Parish"s mobile DRC will be at the City Hall, 120 North Montz in Gramercy.

It is necessary to call FEMA's toll-free number, 800-621-FEMA (3362), to register for assistance from Hurricane Lili even if you have already called for assistance after Tropical Storm Isidore. People with hearing or speech impairments may call (TTY) 800-462-7585. Disaster recovery officials strongly suggest applicants register before they come to the DRCs in order to avoid delays.

All DRCs are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.

The centers are staffed by personnel who can answer questions and provide recovery information and written materials about various assistance programs available to individuals and business owners.

State Coordinating Officer Art Jones and Federal Coordinating Officer Carlos Mitchell urge those with questions to visit one of the centers.

"There are many programs available for homeowners, renters and businesses," Jones said. "This is an opportunity for people to sit down with different agencies such as the U.S. Small Business Administration, the American Red Cross, mitigation officers and others to get their recovery process questions answered."
