Baton Rouge, LA -- State, Federal, local and voluntary agencies are working in partnership to help Louisiana residents recover from the recent flooding. Following is a summary of ongoing response and recovery efforts for tropical storm Isidore as of noon, Friday, October 4, 2002. The Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness (LOEP) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will update this information on a daily basis from their Joint Information Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
- Damage assessment teams are back in the field to review those affected by tropical storm Isidore who were re-affected by Hurricane Lili as well as those newly affected by Hurricane Lili.
- Emergency needs for such items as ice and power also are being assessed.
- Registrations for assistance through FEMA's toll-free registration line for tropical storm Isidore total 23,049 and include the following:
- Iberia Parish, 9
- Jefferson Parish, 3,036
- Lafourche Parish 143
- Livingston Parish, 59
- Orleans Parish, 15,422
- Plaquemines Parish, 124
- St.Bernard Parish, 667
- St. Charles Parish, 369
- St. John The Baptist Parish, 282
- St. Tammany Parish, 1,108
- Tangipahoa Parish, 579
- Terrebonne Parish, 1,039
- The U.S. Small Business Administration has received 5,234 home referrals and 1,194 business referrals as a result of registrations. (Isidore)
- A total of 2,226 housing assistance applications for $2 million have been approved. Housing assistance may include lodging expense reimbursement, emergency minimal repair assistance, temporary rental assistance, and mortgage and rental assistance. (Isidore)
- There have been 4,713 home inspections done and returned to FEMA. (Isidore)
- As of today, one Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is open in Slidell, La. Other DRCs will be opened in Orleans and Terrebonne parishes tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 5, at 9 a.m. DRCs are designed to provide applicants with an opportunity to discuss their needs with personnel from state, federal and voluntary organizations who can answer questions and provide recovery information about various programs available to individuals and business owners.
