San Antonio, TX -- State and federal officials have announced the Disaster Recovery Center in Nueces County will remain open through 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 30. This center has seen sufficient traffic within the last several days to justify remaining open to serve the Nueces County area residents. Any resident affected by the disaster who desires to meet with Recovery Specialists to ask about available assistance for damages resulting from Tropical Storm Fay is encouraged to take advantage of the extension.

Through 6 p.m., October 30, residents of all declared counties can get answers to questions and check on the status of their applications at the Disaster Recovery Center located: Robstown DRC in The Armory Building, 1198 Bluntzer, Robstown, TX. The center hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., through October 30, closed Sunday, October 27.

After the center is closed, help is still as close as a telephone call. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) maintains a toll-free disaster phone line. To register, call FEMA toll-free at 1-800-621-FEMA.

Anyone with questions about FEMA programs can still call the Helpline immediately at 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA). Due to the high volume of calls recently being received, those with less sensitive questions that can be asked at a later date are encouraged to contact the Helpline in a week to 10 days.

Those who are hearing or speech-impaired can call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 to apply or to check on their applications. The telephone number is operational from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., CDT, seven days a week until further notice.

Disaster assistance programs include housing assistance, grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not covered by insurance or other programs, and low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration for flood-damaged residential and business property. Disaster unemployment assistance, tax assistance, and other special services are also available to persons affected by the disaster.
