San Antonio, TX -- Federal and State officials want Texans to know that even if they applied for assistance after the June/July floods, they must still call the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free registration number to apply for flooding assistance from Tropical Storm Fay.

State Coordinating Officer Duke Mazurek encourages all those affected by the flooding which began on September 6 to call the FEMA registration number for disaster assistance. "Those affected by Tropical Storm Fay must apply for assistance even if they applied for help after the June/July flooding. In order to get help, registration is required for each disaster."

On September 26, President Bush declared nine counties in Texas as major disaster areas. The designated counties are: Brazoria, Frio, Galveston, La Salle, Live Oak, Matagorda, Nueces, San Patricio and Wharton.

There are many assistance programs available including temporary disaster housing assistance, low-interest loans for repair and replacement of real or personal property and grants to help meet serious disaster-related needs and expenses not covered by insurance or other assistance programs.

Help is only a telephone call away. Call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing and speech impaired. The registration lines are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
