Baton Rouge, LA -- With their mission accomplished, Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in Abbeville and Rayne will cease operations at close-of-business 6 p.m., Sat., Nov. 2.

The recovery centers were established in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isidore and Hurricane Lili as thousands of flood victims sought assistance. More than 1,500 Acadia and Vermilion applicants for federal and state aid visited the two parish DRCs to ask questions and to learn about available programs and risk-reduction measures.

Parish residents who registered for assistance are welcome to visit either DRC to check the status of an application or get questions answered before the centers close. The DRCs are located at:

Acadia: Rayne Plaza, 1407 The Boulevard, Suite F, Rayne, LA; and
Vermilion: St Theresa Community Center, 101 N. Leonard Avenue, Abbeville, LA.

"These centers served these communities well in a time of need," said Art Jones, state coordinating officer. " There's no substitute for meeting one-on-one and getting the reassurance that your concerns and questions have answers."

Jones said five remaining centers continue to operate until their workload diminishes. These DRCs are open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday until further notice.

At DRCs, staff provide information on available programs, including housing assistance, individual and family grants, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest loan applications, business loans, mitigation and other disaster-related programs to help cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.

The application line 800-621-FEMA, (TTY/TDD) 800-462-7585 is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
