WASHINGTON, D.C. -- State and FEMA officials opened a Disaster Field Office (DFO) yesterday in Little Rock, Ark. to coordinate recovery operations stemming from last week's tornadoes.

One shelter remains open in Little Rock (Pulaski County) and McRae (White County) while two are still open in Bebe, along with eight feeding sites around the affected area. A total of 88 people were sheltered overnight.

One priority is the restoration of the severely damaged public school in Beebe (White County). FEMA's Public Assistance (PA) Officer and a representative from the State Office of Emergency Services have met with Beebe's Superintendent of Schools to discuss needs and approaches to restoration of the school.

The U. S. Small Business Administration has 43 personnel on scene to man application desks in four fixed-site Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) and one mobile DRC.

Community Relation teams visited all counties in the declared disaster area yesterday. Teams met with county and local officials and distributed teleregistration information to victims.
