More Federal Funds Coming To Hurricane-Damaged Counties

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Following further inspections of damages caused by Hurricane Bret, disaster-recovery assistance in 11 South Texas counties has been expanded.

Individuals in San Patricio County now are eligible to apply for grants to help pay for temporary housing, minor home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses. They also may apply for low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration to cover residential and business losses not fully covered by insurance.

The following counties, Aransas, Brooks, Cameron, Duval, Kenedy, Kleberg, Nueces, Webb and Willacy had previously been eligible for reimbursement for emergency protective services and debris removal expenses. Governments and certain nonprofits within these counties may now apply for reimbursement of expenses related to:

Governments and certain nonprofits in Hidalgo County now are eligible for reimbursement for emergency protective services and debris removal expenses, in addition to the expenses listed above.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Texas Division of Emergency Management are conducting a series of briefings throughout the region to explain to local governments and certain nonprofits how to apply for the assistance.
