Disaster Recovery Centers To Close Thursday; Helpline Answers Applicant Questions

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The two remaining Disaster Recovery Centers located in Corpus Christi and Falfurrias will close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 21. The centers were established in the wake of Hurricane Bret to provide information about disaster recovery programs and direct, personal assistance to disaster victims.

After the Disaster Recovery Centers close, help is still available from the FEMA Helpline from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday by calling 1-800-525-0321 until further notice. For individuals with hearing or speech impairments, the number is (TTY)1-800-660-8005.

For questions about filling out application packets for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), applicants may call 1-800-366-6303 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays or visit a Disaster Recovery Center 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the centers close on Thursday, October 21.

More than 4,000 individuals have visited the Disaster Recovery Centers since they were opened.

Individuals in the following counties have until 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21 to call 1-800-462-9029 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through next Thursday to register for assistance: Aransas, Brooks, Cameron, Duval, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Nueces, San Patricio, Webb and Willacy.
