San Antonio, TX -- For Brazoria, Nueces and Live Oak County residents who wish to meet with Recovery Specialists to ask about available assistance for damages resulting from Tropical Storm Fay beginning September 26, the time for visiting the Disaster Recovery Centers is getting shorter. State and federal officials have announced the DRCs will close at 6 p.m. Friday, October 25.

Through 6 p.m., October 25, residents of Brazoria, Nueces and Live Oak Counties can get answers to questions and check on the status of their applications at the Disaster Recovery Center located at Sweeny Community Building, 205 West Ashley Wilson Road, Sweeny, Texas; Robstown DRC in The Armory Building, 1198 Bluntzer, Robstown, Texas; and, Swinney Switch DRC located in the Live Oak County Volunteer Fire Department 914 FM 3024, Swinney Switch, Texas.

The center hours are Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Even though the centers are closing, help is still as close as a telephone call. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) maintains a toll-free disaster phone line. To register, call FEMA toll-free at 1-800-621-FEMA. Anyone with questions about FEMA programs or the status of their applications may call the same number for answers. Those who are hearing or speech-impaired can call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 to apply or to check on their applications. The telephone numbers are operational from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., CDT, seven days a week until further notice.

Disaster assistance programs include housing assistance, grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not covered by insurance or other programs, and low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration for flood-damaged residential and business property. Disaster unemployment assistance, tax assistance, and other special services are also available to persons affected by the disaster.
