"Prospects For The Molecular Genetics Of Drug Abuse"

Genetic factors have been found to play a significant role in drug abuse and addiction with heritabilities reported as high as 70%. Vulnerability to drug addiction does not appear to follow simple Mendelian patterns of transmission and is likely to be a complex, polygenic phenotype with significant environmental influences on expression. This symposium brings together many senior researchers to discuss our current understanding of the genetics of addiction as well as provide information on funding opportunities for genetic research on drug addiction vulnerability.
