Disaster Helpline Available After Recovery Center Closes

TEXARAKANA, Texas -- According to state and federal disaster recovery officials, more than 300 Texans have already registered for disaster assistance following the tornado destruction on May 4. For those who may have questions about their applications or disaster assistance programs, a toll-free helpline is available.
"The FEMA/Texas Helpline is an important resource for those who have been affected by the tornadoes earlier this month who need information about assistance programs or the status of their applications for aid," said Texas Division of Emergency Management Coordinator Ed Laundy.
"In addition to following up on their applications, disaster victims in Bowie, Red River and Titus counties can learn more about housing programs, grants and loans by calling this number," said Robert Teeri, Federal Coordinating Officer for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Even after the Disaster Recovery Center in DeKalb closes Friday, May 28, the FEMA/Texas Helpline (1-800-525-0321, or TTY 1-800-660-8005 for those with speech or hearing impairments) will be available for toll-free information. Texas DEM and FEMA representatives encourage renters, homeowners and business owners in the designated counties to call this Helpline for information.
