Fellowships and Positions – Basic/Translational Training

The Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA) is the award mechanism used to support stipends for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Fellowships are made for 2 years initially, but may be reviewed and renewed annually for up to 5 years, based on merit.

Who can apply?

  • Fellows with a doctoral degree or the equivalent in the health sciences.
  • Fellows with no more than 5 years of relevant postdoctoral research experience at the start of the fellowship period.
  • U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
  • Foreign nationals: The NIH is authorized to support applications for J1 visas, which do not require full-time employment.
