Referring a Patient
Children, teenagers and adults with newly diagnosed or recurrent primary or metastatic tumors of the central nervous system are potential candidates for a patient consultation located at the Neuro-Oncology Branch of the National Institutes of Health.
Patients or physicians may contact the Neuro-Oncology Branch
by calling (301) 594-6767 or (866) 251-9686 for PATIENT REFERRALS. Our Nurse Practitioners will
collect basic information on prospective patients and will
instruct you to send us specific information if you
seek an appointment. For all other inquiries please call our main line at 301-402-6298.
We require a medical summary, copies of relevant
prior radiographic scans (MRI, CT or PET), pathology report,
and any material that may be valuable in the evaluation process. Additional information may be required.
We will make every effort to keep the patient's physician fully informed
and involved in the care of the patient (if requested by the
patient). The patient's Neuro-Oncology Branch physician or
nurse practitioner will contact the physician's staff to coordinate
treatment and follow up plans.
If you would like to refer a patient, please feel free to call or write
