| What is CRISP? |
| CRISP (Computer Retrieval of Information on Scientific Projects) is a biomedical database system containing information on research projects and programs supported by the Department of Health and Human Services. |
| What type of research is included in CRISP? |
| Most of the research falls within the broad category of extramural projects, grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements conducted primarily by universities, hospitals, and other research institution; and funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other government agencies. |
| Are grants not funded by NIH included in CRISP? |
A relatively small number of research grants are funded by:
- the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
- the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ)

| Is information about intramural programs included in CRISP? |
| CRISP also contains information on the intramural programs of the NIH and the FDA. |
| How often is the information updated? |
| The CRISP database is updated weekly. |
| What's New? |
CRISP has a new look! CRISP is now part of the NIH Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool (http://RePORT.nih.gov), a new gateway to NIH reports and other information resources (including CRISP).
This cosmetic change is the first of a series of improvements planned for CRISP. Soon, not only will you be able to search NIH-funded research but you will also find more information associated with funded projects, including budget information and links to publications and patents resulting from NIH-funded research. For now, all current CRISP features remain the same, and the CRISP hit lists will retain their original appearance.
Additional CRISP improvements to be made over the next year include new indexing and automated disease categorization methods, and more extensive and flexible options for searching for grants and contracts, that reflect current research investments in specific diseases and other conditions.

| Is the level of funding for specific diseases, or are project award amounts, available in CRISP? |
| Data related to diseases and conditions without dollars may be found on the CRISP website; however, adding dollars to CRISP is under consideration. Currently, diseases and conditions that are officially associated with dollars are available on the NIH Office of Budget (OB) web site at http://officeofbudget.od.nih.gov/UI/FundingForDiseases.htm. Award amounts for grants (although not subprojects) are available for download at http://report.nih.gov/award/state/state.cfm. |
