ALEXANDER ANNOUNCES $1.2 MILLION GRANT FOR GREATER OUACHITA PORT COMMISSION

FUNDING TO BENEFIT NORTH LOUISIANA AREA TREMENDOUSLY

WASHINGTON, D.C. —U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, today announced that the U.S. Dept. of Transportation will award the Greater Ouachita Port Commission a $1,213,592 grant, which will be used for the design, engineering and for the completion of an intermodal port facility.

"This grant will benefit North Louisiana in a tremendous way," Alexander said.

"As I have said all along, one way to benefit our state's economy is to invest in infrastructure projects. Studies have shown that for every billion spent on infrastructure projects, nearly 50,000 jobs are created. As long as I continue to serve in Congress, I will continue to work with members of Louisiana's delegation to help bring needed funding to all areas of the state. I'm pleased to work closely with Senator Vitter and plan to fight for every federal dollar for Louisiana."

According to the U.S. DOTD, the funds will also be used toward purchasing two pieces of rolling equipment and for design, environmental work and marketing of the container facility.

Alexander said he will continue to work with other members of the Louisiana delegation to bring funding for transportation projects to the 5th Congressional District.

"The Greater Ouachita Port Commission is vital to economic development in Northeast Louisiana," U.S. Sen. David Vitter, R-Metairie, said.

"This $1.2 million grant will allow the port authority to expand its services with an intermodal port facility and supply the local economy with much needed jobs."
