ALEXANDER ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR MONROE CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT FUNDING TO BE USED TOWARD CAROL M. WHITE PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, today announced that the U.S. Dept. of Education will award a grant totaling $427,184 to the Monroe City School District's Carol M. White Physical Education Program, according to Deborah A. Price, acting assistant secretary of U.S. Dept. of Education.
It is anticipated that the grant be available for a total of three years.
The Carol M. White Physical Education program supports local education agencies and promotes healthy choices and fitness education for area students.
This program is designed to address:
* Fitness education and assessment
* Improvement of a variety of motor skills
* Development of social and cooperative skills
* Better eating habits and improvement of overall nutrition
"It is important to teach young students healthy habits that they will use for the rest of their lives," Alexander said.
"By stressing the positive attributes of exercise and fitness to students, we are ultimately preparing them for healthy lifestyles."
