Project
to Include Links to Table of Contents and Publishers' Descriptions
for Books Records
The Library of Congress Cataloging Directorate
will be undertaking a project to include links to table of contents and publishers'
description information within some MDS-Books All records. Uniform Resource
Identifiers (URIs) for the links to the online data maintained on Servers at
the Library of Congress will be included in field 856 of the MARC records. Below
are some sample 856 fields of these updated records:

There are approximately 40,000 records to be updated with the new 856 data. This record update project was begun July 26, 2002 and is tentatively scheduled to be completed some time this summer. The Library anticipates updating batches of records daily until all 40,000 records have been revised and redistributed.
