Searching MARC Standards

You may Search the Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) standards in Cataloger's Desktop using either a Quick Search or an Advanced Search method. In this Quick Tip, designed and developed by Library Services' Instructional Design and Training Division for Cataloging Distribution Service, you will learn how to search and apply features using both methods in 3-4 minutes. If you need instruction in basic Cataloger's Desktop searching techniques, please work through the Searching Quick Tip first. You may leave this tutorial at any time by clicking on the Cataloger's Desktop banner at the top of each page.

In the first exercise, we have entered the terms "varying form of title" in the Quick Search box. Since we want to search in the single source "MARC standards," we will click the Desktop classic link to see the Table of Contents (TOC). Next, we will select the box next to MARC Standards in the panel on the left, and then click the Find button. We will discuss various ways of entering these terms further in this Quick Tip.

In this simulation, click the circled Desktop classic link, check MARC Standards, and finally click the Find button to start your search.
