Social Workers
Social workers in the Pediatric Oncology Branch work with
new families to help arrange travel, lodging and orientation to the
NIH. The assigned social worker completes a psychosocial assessment
of all new patients and families. Special emphasis is placed on family
supports, emotional crises and specific needs of patients regarding
specific family histories. Individual and family counseling is made
available when indicated. Social workers are available to support both
the patient and family and are available to assist with discharge planning,
which would include services in the community as well as home health
care.
