Bobby Short
(Sept. 15, 1924 - March 21, 2005)
With his mother’s permission, Bobby Short left home at 11 to perform in Chicago and has been performing ever since. Since 1968 Short has been the pianist at the Café Carlyle, appearing eight months a year. He performs the standards by Cole Porter, the Gershwins and Rodgers and Hart and brings back memories of a golden age of popular music. His unique delivery was heavily influenced by the great cabaret stylist, Mabel Mercer, and Ivie Anderson, who sang with Duke Ellington.
