Dr. Susan Bates, did her undergraduate work at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She earned her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, in Little Rock, where she also did her internal medicine internship and residency. She then came to Washington, D.C., for a senior residency at Georgetown University.
Dr. Bates joined the NIH in 1981 as a medical staff fellow
in the Pediatric Oncology Branch of NCI. Soon after, she moved
to the Medicine Branch of NCI's Clinical Oncology Program. She
now heads the Molecular Therapeutics Section.
Before coming to NIH in 1993, Dr. Barrett was professor of hematology at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School and then professor of hematological medicine at Hammersmith Hospital.
Dr. Barrett has been involved with marrow transplantation since
1970. His recent research has focused on improving the outcome
of allogeneic bone marrow transplantation by graft engineering.
His laboratory research includes graft-versus-host disease and
the graft-versus-leukemia reaction.
