Dr. Julio Panza was born in Argentina and earned his medical degree there at the National University of Rosario. He did a year of residency in internal medicine followed by three years of residency in cardiology at the Italian Hospital in Buenos Aires.

Dr. Panza came to the United States in 1986 when he joined the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute as a clinical research fellow in the Cardiology Branch. He has remained with that Branch ever since and is presently a senior investigator and head of the Section on Echocardiography.

Dr. Panza's research has focused on the endothelium, the innermost lining of blood vessels. But today he'll discuss "Real-time 3D Echocardiography: A New Look at the Heart."


Dr. Kim Yancey earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Georgia and his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta. He completed a year's internship in internal medicine at Eugene Talmadge Memorial Hospital, and did a 2-year residency in dermatology at the Medical College of Georgia.

In 1981, Dr. Yancey joined NCI's dermatology branch as a medical staff fellow. In 1985 he joined the Department of Dermatology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences as assistant ­ then associate ­ professor, and acting department chair. In 1993, he returned to NCI's dermatology branch as a senior investigator.

Dr. Yancey's clinical interests concern autoimmune and inherited sub-epidermal blistering diseases. Today, he will discuss "Blisters, Blemishes, and Hair Loss: Consequences of Type XVII Collagen Loss."
