Anti-HIV Drug Information Available on AIDSinfo
In addition to the HIV treatment guidelines and consumer-based fact sheets, AIDSinfo also provides users with up-to-date anti-HIV drug information. The AIDSinfo Drug Database offers quick access to information on both Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved and investigational anti-HIV drugs and drugs to treat opportunistic infections on the Drugs section of the AIDSinfo Web site.
There are currently 86 HIV-related drugs in the database. Each drug record is available in three different versions for different audiences: patients, health professionals, and Spanish speakers. All three are available in a printer-friendly PDF format. Users can locate specific HIV-related drug information by using the left navigation bar on the AIDSinfo Drug Database page or by searching for a drug by name, drug class, FDA approval status, or alphabetically.
AIDSinfo drug fact sheets are updated annually and when new prescribing information or important clinical trial data become available. When possible, AIDSinfo staff use additional relevant and reliable sources, such as the United States Pharmacopeia Drug Information (USP DI), American Society of Health System Pharmacists (AHFS), Merck Index, ChemIDplus, and conference abstracts documenting clinical trial results in their update process. The health professional version includes information on current research directly relevant to that particular drug, including links to published, peer-reviewed journal abstracts available on PubMed, citations for clinical trials abstracts from conferences, and links to trials registered at ClinicalTrials.gov.
Using non-technical language, the patient fact sheets focus on those issues most important to the patient population, including dosing information, side effects, and food and drug interactions. The patient version is also made available in Spanish, so that Spanish-speaking patients have access to the same anti-HIV drug information.
All three versions -- health professional, patient, and Spanish -- provide access to currently recruiting clinical trials that are evaluating these drugs. This feature enables users to locate clinical trials automatically, without having to search the clinical trials section of AIDSinfo manually.

National Caribbean-American HIV/AIDS Awareness Day: June 8, 2007
June 8, 2007, marks the second annual observance of National Caribbean-American HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NCAHAAD). This day is dedicated to raising awareness of HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean-American community. In addition, this day is devoted to encouraging Caribbean-American and Caribbean-born individuals across the United States to get educated about HIV/AIDS and how to stay healthy.
AIDSinfo is pleased to participate in the commemoration of this important day.
