Dr. Greenberg is director of the
Division of Genetics and Developmental Biology, where she oversees the administration of about 1,445 research and training grants. She has expertise in developmental genetics, the genetics of model organisms, cell repositories, and bioethical issues related to stored tissue samples and to genetic research that involves participants from named communities. Greenberg serves as project officer of the Human Genetic Cell Repository, which provides cell lines and DNA samples to investigators studying genetic diseases. She is also the principal leader of the NIH Director’s Pioneer Award Program.
Greenberg served as the NIH program representative to the Federal Demonstration Partnership from 1991-1998, and as a member of the Executive Committee of the FDP from 1996-1998. She was executive secretary of the Panel to Assess the NIH Investment in Research on Gene Therapy in 1995. She organized the First Community Consultation on the Responsible Collection and Use of Samples for Genetic Research held in September 2000. In addition, she was chair of the Advisory Committee of the DeWitt Stetten, Jr. Museum of Medical Research.
Greenberg served as NIGMS acting director from May 2002 to November 2003.
