Diseases Laboratory
The
Transfusion Transmitted Viruses Laboratory (TTVL) provides testing
to support the Department of Transfusion Medicine, Clinical Center
patients, clinical research protocols, and research laboratory studies.
TTVL performs required Infectious Disease testing on all Donors
of red blood cells, plasma, platelets and other transfusion products
prior to transfusion. Tests performed include EIA testing for HIV-1/HIV-2,
Hepatitis (B, B core, C and A), and HTLV I/II, Nucleic Acid Testing
(NAT) for HIV-1 and HCV as well as confirmatory testing/Supplemental
testing for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.
TTVL also performs diagnostic testing to support patient care at
the Clinical Center and Research Support. Tests performed include,
those listed for donor testing as well as PCR for HCV and HBV, and
HCV Genotyping.
The facility is licensed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA),
American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and the Joint Commission
on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
