Behavioral Research Program


Mary O’Connell first came to the NCI as a Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA) Fellow in the Health Communication Internship Program in 2005. In 2006, Mary became a Federal Contractor in support of the Tobacco Control Research Branch. As a Program Analyst in the Office of the Associate Director, Mary manages communication activities and provides program analysis and scientific support for the Behavioral Research Program. Mary holds a Master’s Degree in Health Communication from Emerson College in Collaboration with Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA and a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from University at Buffalo, the State University of New York.

Mary O’Connell manages communication activities in the Behavioral Research Program and provides programmatic analysis and scientific support. Mary disseminates extramural funding opportunities and research projects through presentations, fact sheets, briefing reports, and web content. Mary contributes to intramural research activities, including peer-reviewed journal submissions and scientific conference participation. Some of Mary’s specific key functionalities include website management, publication and clearance requests, special events, and scientific advances. Mary is the communication liaison for the Office of the Director and Program Branch Chiefs.
