Disaster Application Deadline For March Flooding Approaches

London, KY -- Residents and business owners in 30 Kentucky counties, who sustained damage from the severe storms and flooding of March 17-21, have less than two weeks to apply for disaster assistance. June 3 is the last day applications will be accepted. That is also the deadline for submitting loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for disaster-related losses to real and personal property.
This deadline does not apply to those affected by the Kentucky storms, tornadoes and flooding of April 27-May 10. The deadline to apply for disaster assistance for those victims is July 6.
"We want people to understand that this is merely an application deadline," said Mike Bolch, federal coordinating officer. "For individuals who have already applied, their cases will continue to be processed, it's just that we won't be accepting any new applications for the flooding of March 17-21 after June 3."
Federal and commonwealth disaster recovery officials urge those who have not done so to apply as soon as possible by calling the toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362). Hearing or speech-impaired individuals may call the TTY registration number at 1-800-462-7585. The registration numbers are currently available Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST.
To date, over 3,000 individuals have applied for disaster assistance for this March 17-21 flood disaster in Kentucky. More than $4 million has been approved for distribution to over 1,800 individuals impacted by the disaster. The SBA has also approved more than $6.5 million in disaster loans to individuals and businesses that suffered damages due to the storms and flooding.
