Atlanta, GA -- The City of Tallahassee, Florida, will receive a $304,100 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to install storm shutters on seven critical wastewater treatment plant facilities

"Protecting the public's health is a critical part of government at all levels," said FEMA Region IV Director Kenneth O. Burris. "That includes being able to process wastewater even during hurricanes, tornadoes and other high-wind events."

The $304,100 represents 75 percent of the project's estimated total cost. State and local governments will cover the remaining 25 percent ($101,366).

"Protecting Florida's critical infrastructure is paramount during emergencies," said Governor Jeb Bush. "We are happy to partner with FEMA and the city of Tallahassee to ensure the continued operation of wastewater facilities during and following a major disaster."

The grant is a part of FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program designed to help state and local governments take actions now to prevent or reduce the adverse impacts of future disasters. The program's goal is to reduce the loss of life, property and goods due to natural disasters.
