Disaster Recovery Center To Open Tuesday In Tipton County

Nashville, TN -- Federal and state officials have established a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Tipton County to assist victims of the recent tornadoes and severe storms. The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for three days, Nov. 19-21, 2002.

200 W. Washington St.
Covington, TN 38019
At the center, disaster recovery specialists will provide assistance and answer questions from residents who have experienced damages and losses from tornadoes and severe storms that occurred from November 9-12, 2002. President Bush issued a disaster declaration November 13 that covers 16 counties in Tennessee. Individuals from any of the counties affected by the tornadoes and storms may visit any DRC. Declared counties are: Anderson, Bedford, Carroll, Coffee, Crockett, Cumberland, Gibson, Henderson, Madison, Marshall, Montgomery, Morgan, Rutherford, Scott, Sumner and Tipton.
Residents of the declared counties are urged to call the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) toll-free registration number, 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362), available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Individuals with hearing or speech impairments should call toll-free (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. Individuals who would like to talk about their application with someone face-to-face or have questions about disaster recovery programs may visit the center. Those that have already registered should bring their registration number with them, so that DRC staff can check on the progress of their application. You should register before going to a DRC.
There is also a disaster recovery center in Wartburg in Morgan County. Additional disaster recovery centers will be established in the future with locations and dates to be announced.
