Richmond, KY -- Disaster assistance to local government agencies and some non-profit organizations has been extended to three additional Kentucky counties.

Carlisle, Graves and Webster counties are the latest to be eligible for help in cleanup and repair of damage from the May 4-27 storms and floods that swept through the state, said Mike Butler, Federal Coordinating Officer for the Kentucky disaster response. There are now 22 counties in Kentucky where government agencies and some non-profit organizations are eligible for assistance.

With the disaster declaration, affected local governments are eligible to apply for federal assistance to fund 75 percent of the approved costs for debris removal, emergency protective measures and repairing, restoring or replacing damaged public facilities.

Disaster assistance may also be provided for damage to facilities owned by certain private non-profit organizations that operate and maintain educational, utility, emergency, medical, custodial care and other essential governmental service facilities.

In addition, the declaration means that the federal government could fund 75 percent of the cost of state and local government projects designed to prevent or reduce long-term risk to life and property from natural or technological disasters.

Counties eligible for public assistance as a result of the disaster are: Ballard, Boyd, Breathitt, Calloway, Carlisle, Carter, Crittenden, Estill, Fleming, Graves, Greenup, Hart, Henderson, Hopkins, Lewis, Livingston, McLean, Mercer, Nicholas, Owsley, Perry and Rowan. Local governments and eligible non-profit organizations must apply to FEMA for assistance. Each application will be reviewed individually.

This program is different than that offered to individuals and businesses with damage from the May 4-27 storms.

Individuals in the following counties are urged to call FEMA's toll-free number and register for assistance if they had damage during the May 4-27 storms and flooding: Anderson, Boyd, Breckinridge, Boyle, Bullitt, Caldwell, Carter, Crittenden, Elliott, Estill, Fleming, Garrard, Grayson, Greenup, Hardin, Hart, Henderson, Hopkins, Jefferson, Jessamine, Larue, Lewis, Lawrence, Madison, Mason, McLean, Meade, Mercer, Nelson, Owsley, Perry, Rowan, Union, Washington, Webster and Woodford. The number is 1-800-621-3362 (TDD: 1-800-462-7585).
