JACKSON, Miss. -- Disaster victims are urged to register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY: 1-800-462-7585 for the speech or hearing impaired. Registrations can also be made online at www.fema.gov.
More than 246,457 Mississippi disaster victims have registered with FEMA and more than $214,685,089.92 in approved payments have been made. At 3 p.m., a total of 15,931 disaster victims had been to the five open Disaster Recovery Centers that are open in Moss Point, Ocean Springs, Pascagoula, Poplarville and Waveland.
Fatality count remains at 218.
Electrical Power Associations of Mississippi report 26,152 meters without power.
FEMA will reimburse local governments for debris removal on private property in the following counties: George, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River and Stone. Other counties may also be eligible for debris removal from private property on a case-by-case basis. The determination will be based on threat to life, public health and safety.
In Mississippi there are 123 American Red Cross shelters open with 10,739 evacuees.
FEMA and MEMA are working with local and voluntary agency officials in Mississippi and engaging the private sector to identify and transport housing resources. Persons needing housing must register with FEMA by calling, toll-free 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) TTY 1-800-462-7585. Applicants will be contacted by FEMA when housing is available.
