Online Resources & Services
The Library provides access to a full array of online resources and services through
its website at http://nihlibrary.nih.gov.
Resources include an extensive collection of full-text journals and books,
databases, and email alert services. Services include renewing books and
requesting full-text documents online, web-based instruction, requesting literature searches, help with a reference question, and much more.
Resource Training
The Library offers training through hands-on seminars, personal tutorials, or web
tutorials on topics ranging from how to search PubMed® to using reference management software,
such as EndNote® and Reference Manager®. Hands-on sessions are held in the NIH Library,
Training Room. Individual or group tutorials may be given at your lab or office,
or in the Library. For information on when classes are held, to request a personal tutorial,
or access the web tutorials, go to the Library’s Training Catalog at
http://nihlibrary.nih.gov/ResourceTraining/.
Document Delivery
The NIH Library provides access to over 8,400 online journals. Click on the Full-Text Plus! button, when visible, to link to the full text or for titles in print or not owned by the Library, the Document Delivery request form. Alternatively, submit requests for books, articles, patents, thesis, and audiovisuals online using:

PubMed®’s document ordering service, Loansome Doc® – registration required.
The Library’s Online Catalog – available at
http://nih-library.nih.gov – select Document Delivery Requests on the main menu.
Library material may be returned to the Information Desk or sent to the NIH Library via campus mail (NIH Library, Circulation, CMDB, MSC 1150, Bldg. 10, Room 1L21).
In-House Options
Several on-site tools are available, including computers for access to online resources. The Library has a reading room where NIH staff can read, study, write papers or speeches, or work on any tasks requiring library research. Private study carrels are also available.
Translations
For written and recorded translations, submit one copy of text to be translated with a Request
for Translating Service (form NIH-75) to the Translation Unit, NIH Library, Building 10, Room
1L21. Include common account number and signature of approving office. For oral in-person
translations, call 301-496-2257 to make an appointment.
Photocopying
Self-service photocopying/scanning is available to NIH staff for the copying of library materials. No photocopying facilities are available for the general public.
