As the steward of medical research for the nation, the NIH leads the way in
pursuit of knowledge to improve health and save lives. Protecting human
health and the environment is an important part of the NIH mission.
At the NIH we use the NEMS to incorporate environmental considerations into day-to-day operations and to promote continual improvement of the environment and human health. The NEMS helps us to reduce our environmental impacts and improve the efficiency of what we do. It delegates the responsibility for identifying and executing environmentally-sound practices to each NIH employee.
