Wilson, M.D., is Acting Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and the National Toxicology Program of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). A veteran medical researcher in the field of genetic toxicology, Dr. Wilson has helped to expand the traditional definition of environmental health sciences to encompass areas such as understanding of genetic and environmental interactions in disease etiology and development of more precise measurements of human exposures in population studies. Dr. Wilson leads the efforts of the NIEHS in focusing on genetic susceptibility, functional genomics, children’s health, minority research, and community outreach and engagement in environmental health research. He works with the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences in fostering the IOM Roundtable on Environmental Health, Research, and Medicine. Dr. Wilson joined the NIEHS in 1996 as Deputy Director and chief of the DNA Repair and Nucleic Acid Enzymology (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/lsb/dnarna/index.cfm) Section in the Intramural Division. Dr. Wilson received his M.D. from Harvard University, and completed his training at the NIH. He is the author of numerous research articles and publications.
