Process Name Metal Degreasing
Description In 1991, an estimated 300,000 vapor phase degreasors were installed in the United States. More than 400 million pounds of halogenated hydrocarbons were used in that year. In response to scientific knowledge and governmental regulations, alternate degreasing processes have been developed since the 1970s. D-Limonene has been used as a substitute, and new semiaqueous processes have been installed to reduce exposures in the workplace and pollution of the environment. [Burgess, p. 58-80]
